Yes, friends: today is National Tequila Day. A holiday celebrated by some more than others! My friend Renae in Colorado tells me that National Tequila Day is her favorite holiday. Well, actually she didn’t say that and will probably kill me if she ever finds out I mentioned her on my blog. But all kidding aside, NTD is an actual holiday, as per the calendar.
How does one celebrate National Tequila Day? By consuming tequila, of course. It goes without saying that if you’re going to indulge, do so in moderation. Don’t be an idiot. Don’t be a drunk driver. Live to celebrate again next year.
Personally, I was never much for tequila. I love a good margarita (who doesn’t?), but that’s about as far as it goes. This once proved to be a disappointment for my boss: a great lady named Bonnie Shields who was the General Manager of KGRL/KXIQ Radio in Bend, Oregon. Bonnie was determined to make me a master in the sophisticated art of slamming tequila poppers. That would be tequila and 7UP, served in a shot glass. Bonnie was a great teacher, but alas, I was a poor student. I never was able to perform the procedure correctly.
On my last day at the Q, one of my coworkers walked around the building with a video camera and provided everyone with an opportunity to offer me some parting words of wisdom. Bonnie offered me the following suggestion:
“He needs to learn how to handle tequila a little better!”
She was one of a kind: the best GM I ever worked for. I’ll be thinking of her today on National Tequila Day 2021. Cheers!
