I just heard the news that Randy Meisner has died at the age of 77. One of the founding members of the Eagles, he was probably best known for his lead vocals on one of the most overplayed-by-classic-rock-radio songs of all time: “Take it to the Limit.”
Fewer people know that Randy also had a solo career with 3 minor hits between 1980 and 1982:
“Deep Inside My Heart” (duet with Kim Carnes) (1980)
“Hearts on Fire” (1981)
“Never Been in Love” (1982)
All 3 made the Top 40, but none made the Top 10. This one was my favorite. It should have been a much bigger hit than it was, peaking at #28 in the late summer of 1982. If you grew up in Minnesota, you’ll remember WLOL played this pretty extensively for about a month or so:
