Today is Hurricane Katrina’s 5 Year Anniversary

By | August 29, 2010

Five years ago today, Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. I mention this because New Orleans got nearly all of the media coverage. Yes, New Orleans was flooded, but Mississippi got the direct force of the hurricane winds. The damage was incredible. Their recovery has been slow but steady. I’m not sure South Mississippi will ever be what it was before August 29, 2005.

This was the drawbridge which connected Biloxi and Harrison County with Ocean Springs and Jackson County. I used to walk across this bridge multiple times per week. As you can see, it was completely destroyed by the hurricane.

To those who lived through Katrina and survived, know that I am thinking about y’all today!
