Gordon Lightfoot “Sundown” – R.I.P.

By | May 2, 2023

Sad news: Gordon Lightfoot has left this world. He’s probably most well known for “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald”, one of the great “woulda coulda shoulda been #1 songs of the 70s.” It was kept out of #1 by Rod Stewart’s monster hit “Tonight’s the Night, peaking at #2 for 2 weeks.

Gordo did hit #1, though. This is the song that did it for him, 2 years earlier. My Grandma Durigan liked this song and always said so whenever it came on the radio. Which was a real complement since she disliked about 99% of what was played on KDWB, WDGY, and KSTP!
